Communication An Important Tool In Building Connection With The World To Progress - PM Najib

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), Feb 10 (Bernama) -- Najib Razak said the global world scenario today requires one to be connected with the rest of the world to progress. The Malaysian Prime Minister said communication played an important role in building this connection, and proficiency in several languages would facilitate efforts towards achieving the efficient connection. He cited an example of English, the lingua franca of the world that was becoming increasingly important, and Mandarin, to be able to communicate with China, which is poised to emerge as the largest economy in the world. Speaking at the launching of the SJK Chung Hua No.4 (a Mandarin-medium primary school) new building here Thursday, Najib said he even personally encouraged his son to learn Mandarin. Najib also pointed out the importance of mastering Bahasa Malaysia (Malay languange) as an effective communication channel, that united and integrated communities in the country. "As a government, we must continue to focus on capacity building, we want people to prosper, and not only academically successful, but also instilled with good values...just like the Chinese who believe in good character, good values", he said. "There is one Chinese proverb I like very much.. that is 'whenever you drink water from a well, you must never forget the person who dug the well," he added. Najib said the new building was an example of the good relationship between the government, public sector and communities, which showed that with strong support, the building could be successfully ready within a short period of planning. --BERNAMA
