UAE remains committed to int'l standards of safety, security and nuclear non-proliferation: envoy

Washington D.C., February 2, 2009 (WAM) - UAE Ambassador to Washington D.C. Yousef Mana' Al Otaiba discussed the nuclear-cooperation agreement between the UAE and US at 2 separate meeting here with Congressman Dan Burton (R-Indiana), Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere and Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC), Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Military Personnel - the Committee on Education and Labour, and the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

At the meetings which also took in the situation in the Middle East, the UAE envoy stressed the UAE's commitment to the international standards of safety, security and non-proliferation in its pursuit of nuclear power.

He further underlined the exchange of views by the US and countries in the region as well as the role the US can play as an active partner in this regard.

Congressman Burton expressed his desire to lead a delegation of congressmen on a tour to the region.

Both Burton and Wilson expressed special interest in the UAE-US relations.
