UAE spares no effort to help sister and friendly countries in need

Addis Ababa, Feb 3, 2009 (WAM) - The UAE always stands ready to relieve all sister and friendly countries suffering from natural disasters, conflicts or drought, a senior UAE minister told the African Union Summit here yesterday.

''The UAE, under the leadership of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, spares no effort and funds to give a helping hand to sister and friendly countries in need,'' H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, said.

"The stance of oour government is well-known and firm that we make no difference between one country and another, this people and that people irrespective of religious, ethnic or political affiliation ....our philosophy is based on humanity values and nothing else,''Sheikh Hamdan told an elite gathering of over 20 African leaders.

He cited the Dubai Cares and Noor Dubai as example of many major international humanitarian initiatives launched by Sheikh Mohammed to offer education and eye care respectively in many countries of the world.

Sheikh Hamdan also outlined the humanitarian and charitable initiatives he launched in various areas like education and health through the Al Maktoum Charity Authority.

''The UAE is duty bound under the fraternal, human, ethical and religious responsibility to offer help to our financially and economically underprivileged brethrens and friends in Africa. We are trying to secure the minimum opportunities for them in education, health, housing and living conditions,” he added.
