We are looking forward to defending the UAE petroleum, gas and oil industry exports: Hameli
Abu Dhabi, Feb 3, 2009 (WAM) - UAE Energy Minister HE Mohammed bin Dhaen Al Hameli, has stressed that the ministry would implement its three-year strategy to provide protection for the UAE oil, gas and oil industry exports from negative impacts of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
In line with National Media Council's programme to boost cooperation and partnership with the governmental institutions, Al Hameli told Emirates News Agency (WAM) that "the Ministry of Energy is keen through its work team to implement the three-year strategy to protect its oil industry and gas exports in case of any eventuality".
He added that the strategic objectives evolve on liberalisation of market and greater promotion of competitive environment to produce, transfer, distribute electricity and water and secure availability of electricity and water. Al Hameli added that to achieve the strategy the ministry seeks to boost coordination with competent authorities in case of emergency to ensure local market needs, such as petroleum derivatives and provide protection to the country's oil, gas and petroleum industries from adverse effects of the UN convention on Climate Change.
Al Hameli noted that the new strategy provides information, geological and updated accurate geophysics maps and encourages use of alternative and renewable energy sources to provide energy and desalinate water.
He added that the ministry was keen to take part at the regional and international conferences and forums on energy, adding that the ministry has to take part at the UN's convention on climate change to defend its environmental and petroleum interests in regard to the Kyoto Protocol.
Al Hameli noted that the ministry coordinates with the competent authorities inside the country and abroad through The International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds in case of oil spill caused by oil tankers and vessels passing in the regional waters of the UAE.
