TWO BERNAMA SENIOR EXECUTIVES GET AWARDS FROM KING
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 3 (Bernama) -- Two senior executives from Malaysia's
National News Agency (Bernama) are among 274 recipients of awards from Malaysian
King Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin on Monday in conjunction with the Federal
Territory Day celebrations on Feb 1.
Heading the list of recipients were the Lower House of Parliament Speaker
Pandikar Amin Mulia and Bank Negara Governor Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz who were
conferred the Seri Utama Mahkota Wilayah (SUMW) which carries the title
"Datuk Seri Utama".
Bernama Editorial Advisor Azman Ujang received the Seri Mahkota Wilayah
(SMW) which carries the title "Datuk Seri", while Bernama Editor-in-Chief
Yong Soo Heong was conferred the Panglima Mahkota Wilayah (PMW) which carries
the title "Datuk".
Besides Azman, another media practitioner, Star Publications (M) Bhd
Editor-in-Chief Wong Chun Wai, was among the 12 recipients of the SMW.
The other recipients of the SMW were the Director-General of the Public
Service Department, Ismail Adam; Royal Malaysia Police Director of Criminal
Investigation Department Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin; Secretary-General of the
Education Ministry Dr Zulkurnain Awang; Royal Malaysian Navy Chief Admiral Abdul
Aziz Jaafar; former Kuala Lumpur Mayor Ab. Hakim Borhan and Federal Territory
Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) chairman Tan Chai Ho, who was also a former
Deputy Home Minister.
The investiture was held at the Throne Room of Istana Negara (National
Palace), here.
Yong was among the 28 recipients of the Panglima Mahkota Wilayah (PMW) which
carries the title Datuk, while popular television host Aznil Nawawi, who is also
a Creative Consultant with Kumpulan Astro Entertainment Sdn Bhd, was among the
27 recipients of the Johan Mahkota Wilayah (JMW).
Meanwhile, Yong, when met after the investiture said the award he received
Monday was a recognition to Bernama as a national news agency and to the
journalistic fraternity in this country.
"The award is not for me individually but an honour accorded to Bernama and
all journalists," he said.
Meanwhile, Azman described the award as a gift and strong recognition for
his involvement in journalism for more than 36 years.
