150 Refugee Families Benefitted From "Warmth 4 Syria-Lebanon" Mission - NGO

SEPANG (Selangor, Malaysia), March 13 (Bernama) -- The "Warmth 4 Syria-Lebanon" mission initiated by Malaysia's non-governmental organisation of Pertubuhan Himpunan Lepasan Institusi Pendidikan Malaysia (Haluan) has helped 150 Syrian refugee families in Lebanon. Mission chief Dr Mohtar Ibrahim said various essential goods like food, blankets, fuel and medicine worth around US$20,000 (RM90,000) were distributed to the families. The donations from Malaysians were delivered to Syrian refugees in Tripoli, Baalbek and Beqaa during a seven-day mission which began from March 5 until Saturday. The humanitarian mission worked together with Al Ghawath, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in Beirut, Lebanon to facilitate visits and delivery of necessities. "Thank God, we managed to deliver the contributions entrusted upon us by Malaysians to families of refugees in need," he told reporters after arriving at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here Sunday. Also in Haluan's second mission to Lebanon were Dr Kursiah Mohd Razali, 49, Dr Siti Nor Ashiah Johari, 32, Muhammad Zulkarnain Ahmad, 26 and Raja Muhd Azman Raja Azam, 28. Dr Mohtar said the doctors who joined in the mission also visited several clinics at refugee camps, such as AsSyifa Clinic and the AlBarid Treatment Centre at Nahrul Barid Camp, to provide treatment and medicine to sick refugees. The mission team also provided educational assistance to students of Tahfiz centre, First Qibla, as well as children at Al Ghawath orphanage. "The orphans we met, although deprived, remained cheerful. Indeed, the situation witnessed has had a deep impact on us (mission team)," he said. --BERNAMA
