MALAYSIA TO HOST CONFERENCE ON NATO POLICIES

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 3 (Bernama) -- An international conference, "Nato and its
Policies in Asia", will be held in Malaysia in April.

Organised by Islamic portal WorldFutures.Info, the two-day conference aims
to discuss the North Atlatic Treaty Organisation's policies and role on Muslim
countries such as Afghanistan and Iraq and others. The dates have yet to be
decided.

WorldFutures.Info managing editor Kazi Mahmood told Bernama in an
interview Tuesday that the conference would discuss objectively Nato's policies
in relations to Muslim countries and others and the perspectives of the Muslim
world on Nato.

"The conference will be centred on Nato's policies related to the Muslim
world and what can be done to bring peace in these countries...it will focus on
the need for peace and for peaceful resolution of conflicts, and to put aside
military approach," he said.

He said about 500 people, including those from overseas, would be invited to
the conference and they included foreign diplomats here, non-governmental
organisations (NGOs), academician, think-tank and foreign policy experts.

"This is the first time such a conference is being held in this region. We
believe it will be beneficial to the world ummah in particular and all the
people in general in this rapidly changing world geopolitics," Mahmood said,
adding that the Israel-Palestine conflict within the context of Israel-Nato ties
would also be discussed.

Those interested in the conference can contact www.worldfutures.info .

Mahmood said the portal was formed solely for the purpose of the betterment
of the ummah and the Muslim countries.
