Samsung, Uni-Pixel ink pact on new display technology
SEOUL, Feb. 3 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest maker of liquid crystal display (LCD) panels, and the U.S. flat panel display firm Uni-Pixel Inc. have signed a pact on the joint development of an advanced display technology, the South Korean firm said Tuesday.
Under the pact, Samsung and Uni-Pixel will collaborate to develop the technology
known as Time Multiplexed Optical Shutter (TMOS), which will allow them to reduce
production costs for LCDs by 60 percent.
Samsung believes that the TMOS technology will offer significant advantages over
existing alternatives, including reduced power consumption.
A Samsung official said the company will implement the collaboration in a mid-
and long-term research project.
