Yemeni President opens GCC Health Ministers Conference

Sanaa, February 03, SPA -- Yemeni Vice-president Lt Abdu Rabbu
Mansour opened here today the 66th conference for the Council of the
GCC Health Ministers.


Speaking on the occasion, he said the organization of the conference
in Sanaa represents an important step towards cementing partnership
between Yemen and the GCC states.


He noted that Yemen constitutes a strategic depth for the GCC member
states.

The Yemeni Vice-president underlined the importance of enhancing
cooperation among the GCC member states for combating diseases and
promotion of health services.


He lauded the initiative of Prince Abdulaziz bin Ahmad bin
Abdulaziz, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi
Ophthalmology Society, in the field of combating blindness as well as
the role of the Council of the health ministers in promoting health
services in the GCC states.

On his part, Prince Abdulaziz bin Ahmad said the support of the
Council of the Health Ministers to the working plan pertaining to
avoiding blindness will be helpful for carrying out the program of
fighting blindness in cooperation with WHO and non-governmental
organizations which are concerned with fighting blindness.


On his part, Minister of Health Dr Hamad al-Manie lauded the
initiative of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah
bin Abdulaziz at Kuwait summit for Arab reconciliation and
unification of the Arab ranks.


He noted that the call of the Kingdom to hold a meeting for the Arab
Health Ministers in Riyadh to review means of assisting the people of
Gaza comes in line with the responsibility being shouldered by Saudi
Arabia towards the Palestinians.


Dr Al-Manie said efforts are underway to make the Arabian peninsula
free from malaria and diabetes.
