ECOLOGY MINISTER OF AZERBAIJAN GIVES NEWS CONFERENCE ON HIS ANTARCTICA TRAVEL

Baku, February 3 (AzerTAc). Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, President of the Air and Extreme Sports Federation of Azerbaijan, Huseyngulu Bagirov held a press conference on the results of the Azerbaijan`s first expedition to Antarctica.

According to the Minister, the most difficult thing was the terrible frost.
The expedition including Huseyngulu Bagirov and Tarlan Ramazanov took a special
training in Chile in order to adapt to the intensely cold weather
Minister noted expedition always felt President Ilham Aliyev`s support as he even
called them. Bagirov noted the expedition cost 200-250 thousand manats. The greater
part of this sum was paid by the Western University and the remaining part by
expedition members.
Minister pointed out he selected up to 2 kilograms of precious geological samples.
He is planning to write a book on his travel.
The first Azerbaijani expedition to Antarctica has conquered its highest peak Mt.
WInson (5140 m). On January 12 at 19:00 (Chile time; 11:00 Baku time), members of
the expedition installed Azerbaijan`s national flag and a bronze plaque with the
portrait of nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev reading “I am proud of being
Azerbaijani” on the front side and a portrait of President of Azerbaijan Ilham
Aliyev on the reverse side reading “Azerbaijan, go ahead with Ilham”.
