Malaysian Squash Queen Nicol Cruises To Last Eight Of British Open
KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysian squash queen Nicol David continued her sizzling performance by advancing to the quarter-finals of the 2017 British Open Squash Championships held at Airco Arena in Hull, England late Thursday (Friday in Malaysia).
The world number seven, who is seeded sixth, was given a stiff competition by Hong Kong player Joey Chan before securing a 11-4, 14-12, 9-11 and 11-2 victory in her second round match which lasted 47 minutes.
The 33-year-old Penangite was delighted to secure the victory despite receiving tough competition from her younger opponents.
"You get spurred on playing on the glass court, so I think I raised my game up even more. I'm just happy to get through to the quarter-finals, there’s no expectations on me, so I’m looking forward to a good match tomorrow," she was quoted as saying in the tournament's website;www.allambritishopensquash2017.com.
Nicol, who is also five-time British Open champion, is set to face a mammoth task against world number two player, Camille Serme of France in the last eight encounter late Friday (Saturday in Malaysia).
Serme, the 2015 British Open champion, booked her place by edging world number 13th player, Egyptian Nour El Tayeb;winning in 11-8, 11-9, 5-11 and 11-9 in the second round.
