Malaysia Chosen As ISESCO Hub In South East Asia

By Mujahid Ishak LANGKAWI (Kedah, Malaysia), April 5 (Bernama) -- The requirements for high quality education is the main reason Malaysia was chosen as the centre for Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) in South East Asia. ISESCO representative based in Rabat, Morocco, Dr Adel Bouraoui said Malaysia was chosen based on its status and success, especially in the field of education, as well as being an exemplary Islamic nation. "We hope to collaborate with a country that assures its support for the success of the association," he told Bernama after attending the launch of a seminar on the teaching of Arabic in Malaysia, here Tuesday. Adel also viewed Malaysia as being the best country South East Asia for education. Meanwhile, ISESCO Malaysia director Dr Abdul Razif Zaini said ISESCO Malaysia was the official hub for Arabic and the teaching of Islamic education in the South East Asian region. "Among the main objectives for the formation of the association was to 'import' worldwide expertise on the respective fields (Arabic and teaching of Islamic education) to Malaysia," he added. ISESCO Malaysia was established on Oct 22, 2015, and is one of the subsidiaries of the parent organisation based in Rabat. Apart from Malaysia, other countries that have joined ISESCO are Brunei, Myanmar, China, Taiwan, Laos, Singapore, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia and Vietnam. The ISESCO Malaysia has also organised many programmes and activities which include seminars and workshops held biannually, academic discussion series, as well as research in the Arabic language and Islamic education. The establishment also organises Arabic exhibitions and contests at the school and tertiary level, World Arabic Language Day celebration, intensive Arabic class as well as the setting up of a special ISESCO library in Malaysia. -- BERNAMA
