Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing March Into Quarter-Finals Of Singapore Open As Well

SINGAPORE, April 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's second ranked mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing marched into the quarter finals of the Singapore Open badminton tournament as well.
Kian Meng-Pei Jing just needed 37 minutes to tame their second round opponents from Hong Kong, Tam Chun Hei-Ng Tsz Yau 21-17, 21-13.
The eighth seeded pair is scheduled to meet fourth seeded Joachim Fischer Nielsen-Christinna Pedersen from Denmark who won after beating Yang Lee-Hsu Ya Ching from Taiwan 21-15, 21-19.
National number one men's doubles pair, Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong had earlier booked a spot in the quarter-finals of the tournament which offers total prize money of US$350,000 (RM1.54 million).
The second seeded pair will face Indonesian pair, Hardianto Hardianto-Berry Angriawan who beat Lu Ching Yao-Yang Po Han from Taiwan 21-19, 21-16 in the second round of the challenge.
Meanwhile, Zulfadli Zulkiffli, the 2011 world junior champion, ended his journey at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in the men's singles category after losing to Vincent Wong of Hong Kong 21-16, 21-10 over 35 minutes.
Wong had created an upset by defeating third seeded and world number two, Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in the first round of the challenge Wednesday.
Over 59-minutes, Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi, another men's doubles pair succumbed to the current world number one from China, Li Junhui-Liu Yuchen.
Nonetheless, the Malaysian pair managed to drag the fourth seeded pair to a rubber set game 22-20, 18-21, 21-16.
Li Junhui-Liu Yuchen will meet eighth seeded Indonesian pair Ricky Karandasuwardi-Angga Pratama in the quarter finals at the Singapore Open badminton tournament which is being held for six days from April 11.
