Malaysia's MOHE Eyeing More Subjects To Be Listed On Top 50 Qs Subjects Ranking

GEORGE TOWN (Penang, Malaysia), April 20 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia’s Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) is eyeing more subjects to be listed in the Top 50 of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) subject ranking in future. Its minister Idris Jusoh said he was confident the target could be met as currently, 11 subjects were ranked Top 50 in the QS subject rankings. He said among 11 subjects listed on the Top 50 of the QS subject rankings are from the fields of engineering, tourism, education, environment science and development science. "The achievement was proof of the hard work, commitment and dedication of the lecturers and researchers, as well as the higher education community but the effort does not end here," he told reporters after officiating the 3rd Asia-Pacific University-Community Engagement Network (APUCEN) Summit 2017 here Thursday. He said the institutions were expected to supply knowledge, promote innovation and produce holistic graduates to drive national growth and serve the community in line with the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025. Idris said the blueprint could also be translated into the Integrated CGPA Programme (iCGPA) for the nation's first shift in higher education in a bid to produce knowledgeable and balanced graduates. "Through the iCGPA programme, we do not just evaluate the students based on their academic performance, but we complete it by evaluating the students' capability in eight other domains, namely general knowledge, entrepreneurship, information management, communication, practical skills, personality, problem-solving and social skills," he said. Apart from iCGPA programme, Idris said the 2u2i Programme, would be introduced in local universities, that enables students to study for two years at the university and the remaining two years in the industry. "Through the pilot programme that will commence in September this year, our students will graduate with experience as a result of 'working while studying' in the industry," he said. As part of redesigning higher education agenda, he said, another programme namely the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Faculty Programme was launched in 2015 to provide opportunities for students to understand and have a better perspective on the guest speaker's particular field. --BERNAMA
