PEOPLE'S ALLIANCE SHOULD ACCEPT STATE RULER'S DECISION
SLIM RIVER (Malaysia), Feb 6 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad
Badawi said People's Alliance (PR) should accept the decision of the northern
state of Perak ruler Sultan Azlan Shah, for Chief Minister Mohammad Nizar
Jamaluddin and the state executive councillors to resign from their posts.
Abdullah believed the decision was made in accordance with the law.
"I believe that Sultan Azlan Shah had thoroughly considered the issue and
the legal provisions before making the decision.
"Just accept it. When PR won Perak in the last general election, we (BN)
could accept it," he said after visiting Sime Darby's groundwater project at the
Cluny-Bedford Estate in Batang Padang, near here, Thursday.
Abdullah said: "We cannot go against the law and the parties concerned
should not be politicking over the matter.
"This problem is happening while the other states are busy with efforts to
create employment, ensure that projects are well implemented and to reduce the
effects of the global economic crisis."
Asked about the ruling BN's approach in getting the majority in the Perak
state assembly to form a new state government, Abdullah said what was important
was that it followed the laws, and to administer the state with full
responsibility and to serve the people well.
Abdullah said the BN assemblymen whom PR had tried to get them to defect had
realised their mistake and returned to BN.
The prime minister said among the criteria for a Chief Minister was the
ability to lead and serve the people well.
