N SINAI VICE GOVERNOR RECEIVES RI VOLUNTEERS TEAM

Jakarta, Feb 6 (ANTARA)- North Sinai Vice Governor Maj Gen(retired) Muhammad Syeh received a team of Indonesian volunteers from the National Committee for Palestine (KNRP) at the Al-Arish city council, North Sinai, Egypt, on Thursday night (local time) or Friday in Indonesia.

The KNRP team led by Suryama M Sastra, expressed gratitude to the North Sinai authorities in particular and the Egyptian government in general for their help in enabling the KNRP team to enter the Gaza Strip to conduct humanitarian activities, KNRP's press release which was made available to Antara said here on Friday.

The Indonesian vice ambassador to Egypt, Burhanuddin, also expressed similar gratitude to the Egyptian government, the statement said, noting that Burhanuddin also requested North Sinai authorities to pave the way for Indonesia's volunteers working in Gaza Strip to leave the war-torn region soon, as the deadline for foreign volunteers to stay in the Gaza Strip on Thursday (Feb.5) had been reached.

Regarding the closure of the Rafah gate, the North Sinai vice governor stated that his administration had no authority to open and close the Rafah border gate although the gate was located in Egypt territory.

Muhammad, however, said that it was not impossible that a change of policy would happen there to enable Indonesian volunteers to leave the Gaza Strip.

Consequently, another group of KNRP's team who had arrived in North Sinai should monitor the lastest developments in the border area, the press release quoted Muhammad as saying.

Suryama, who is also the House of Representatives (DPR) commission-I member overseeing foreign, defense and information affairs promised to communicate with related parties in Egypt to seek a way for the third KNRP team to enter Gaza.

Some 14 members of the KNRP team were now waiting in Al-Arish, capital city of North Sinai, about 45 km from Rafah.
