Turkey Happy With Malaysian Steps Against Gulenist Network
NEW DELHI, April 29 (Bernama) -- Turkey has hailed Malaysia’s action against the network of United States-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, who is accused of involvement in the failed military coup in Turkey last year.
"We are very happy the way Malaysia handled them. They have run away because Malaysia was very strict and did not allow the misuse of religion by them.
“This is Malaysia’s strength and we deeply appreciate it,” Ilnur Cevik, a senior advisor to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, told Bernama in an interview here.
The shadowy network is linked to Gulen, who lives in a sprawling and secluded compound in Pennsylvania.
The Turkish government has asked the United States to send Gulen back to Turkey to face trial over his alleged role in the attempt to overthrow the democratically-elected government using his followers within the military and other institutions.
