MAS Settles With Australian Family Over Loss In MH17 Tragedy

KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has reached an amicable and confidential settlement with an Australian family which lost four family members in Flight MH17 that was shot down over Ukraine, almost three years ago. Anthony and Marite Maslin sued the airline last year for the loss of their three children, Mo, 12; Evie, 10; and Otis, eight, as well as Marite’s father, Nick Norris, who was travelling with the children. “Malaysian Airline System Berhad confirms that it has reached an amicable and confidential settlement with the Maslin family and therefore the suit has been withdrawn. "MAS will not however disclose any further details on this suit or about the details of the settlement in respect to the privacy of the family. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families and friends affected," MAS said in a statement Tuesday. It was reported that the Maslins were the first Australian family to reach a settlement with the airlines. Two hundred and ninety-eight passengers and crew including 44 Malaysians and 38 Australian citizens or residents on board Flight MH17 perished when the plane was shot down in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine on July 17, 2014. -- BERNAMA
