600 Athletes To Participate In 113 Triathlon Malaysia 2017 In May

KOTA TINGGI (Johor, Malaysia) May 3 (Bernama) -- More than 600 athletes from 28 countries will participate in the 113 Triathlon Malaysia 2017 championship, which is currently in its fourth year running at the Lotus Desaru Beach Resort, near here on May 13. Programme director Andy Foo Mun Kit said countries expected to take part in the championship included Brunei, Singapure, Thailand, United States, Australia, Japan, Spain, New Zealand, China, Indonesia, Canada, Italy and France. "The main categories scheduled to take place on May 13 involved the two-km swimming event, cycling (90km) and running (21km) events. "Two sub-categories, namely 113 Sprint involves the 750-metre swimming, cycling (20km) and running (5km) events while category 113 Mini involves the 300-metre swimming, cycling (10km) and running (2km)," he told reporters here Tuesday. Foo said the main categories are normally participated by athletes who are familiar with the extreme sports concept while novices, including children can take part in the 113 Sprint and 113 Mini categories that involved short distance activities. A total of RM30,000 (US$6,952) in cash and goods are up for grabs to over 120 winners for each cateogry, he said. -- BERNAMA
