Malaysian Embassy In Chile Showcases Malaysian Cuisine And Culture

KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 (Bernama) – The Embassy of Malaysia in Santiago, Chile hosted for the first time ever the Embassy Open Day on Tuesday, showcasing Malaysian cuisines and culture to more than 400 people. Officiated by both Mayor of the Municipality of Las Condes Don Joaquin Lavin and Ambassador of Malaysia to Chile Dr Mohamad Rameez Yahaya, the event was also attended by guests from other embassies, business and ministries. Mohamad Rameez said, the event offered the guests the opportunity to taste Malaysian cuisines such as satay, pisang goreng, nasi Pelangi , rendang ayam and Air Batu Campur which were prepared by the Perwakilan Ladies of Santiago. “The Embassy also showcased the Kompang performance, the Lancang Kuning Dance, Silat (or the Malay art of self-defence) show and cooking demonstration as well as Malay movie and songs,” he said in a statement Wednesday adding that the event was organised to also disseminate information about the embassy work as well as to help in registering Malaysians in Chile. He said, overall many of those who attended were very delighted and happy and wished that more such activities would be promoted as to make known to Chileans what the embassy was doing. “Even the Ambassador of Thailand to Chile, Saroj Thanusanti was very delighted for such creative idea in organising such an event which he saw as a way to mingle better with Chileans,” he said. Mohamad Rameez also highlighted the importance of the Malaysian Embassy’s role in enhancing bilateral relations with Chile and hoped the effort in organising such events would enhance that endeavour. He also said that this kind of activities such as the Embassy of Malaysia’s Noches Mercardo or Night Market would be organised once a month on Friday night to expose more of Malaysian delicacies to Chileans. -- BERNAMA
