US national security advisor reacts positively to Larijani's speech
Berlin, Feb 7, IRNA - Top US national security advisor James L. Jones welcomed the speech of Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani at the opening session of the Munich Security Conference on Friday, terming it positive, the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper reported Saturday.
Asked about calls by Iran for further US apologies, he said one had to
wait and see as to how many more hands would be reached out Iran.
Jones stressed that Larijani's speech signaled Tehran's readiness for
a dialogue with Washington, according to the German-language
transcript of the interview.
US President Barack Obama's desire to boost dialogue in the Middle East is
"positive", but it must be followed with a complete change in US diplomacy,
Larijani was quoted saying Friday .
"In the last year, the US has burned many bridges. A new White House
can rebuild
them, but this requires new pragmatic strategies based on respect and
fair play:
the carrot and stick approach must be discarded," the Iranian official told
the Munich security confab in Germany.
Larijani also urged Washington to abandon its double-standard policy in the
Middle East.
