WHO expert hails UAE's successful anti malaria campaign

World Health Organisation expert (WHO) has lauded the UAE's successful anti malaria campaign.

Abraham Menzfa, WHO expert for the Eastern Mediterranean Office, called on the health authorities to continue following up the anti malaria plan as outlined by WHO even after declaring the UAE malaria-free for precautionary measures. He advised the authorities to continue detecting and diagnosing incoming cases from abroad.

Menzfa toured the anti malaria teams in the field, where he was briefed about the anti malaria programmes.

Dr Mahmoud Fikri, executive director for Health Affairs Policies at the MoH, said WHO appreciates the UAE's anti malaria campaign, adding that the international body experts visit the UAE frequently to assess its experience in order to transfer it to other regions.

He added that the expert took some samples of the mosquito larva from different sites and analysed them at the laboratory, adding that he found out they did not carry the disease.

Fikri said that the UAE Health Minister received WHO expert at his office, where the expert briefed him about findings of his visit to the country.

WHO expert toured Central Region, Al Dhaid, Massafi, Hatta, Kory Fakkan, Kalbaa, Dibba and Ras Al Khaimah emirate.
