AHMAD YANI AIRPORT OF SEMARANG CLOSED DUE TO FLOODS

Semarang, Indonesia, Feb 8 (ANTARA) - Ahmad Yani airport of Semarang, Central Java until Sunday evening was still closed for flight departures and arrivals due to floods that inundated its runways since early on Sunday, an airport official said.

Airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I General Manager Bambang Suwarsono said here on Sunday that the floods in the runways had not yet receded until Sunday afternoon so that the airport was still closed.

He said that there was no specific time on when the airport was to be re-opened. He said airport workers had used 23 water pumps and two fire trucks were mobilized to drain the flood waters.

"The high rain falls which fell since Saturday until today caused the runways to be flooded about 13 centimeters deep," he said.***
