DPM expresses thanks to NGOs for assisting to development of Laos
(KPL) Deputy Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith expressed thanks to the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and national NGOs for contributing to the development and humanitarian assistance of Laos.
Dr Thongloun who is also Minister of Foreign Affairs said that during he met NGOs on 6 February, International Convention Training Centre. The event was attended by 200 representatives from ministries, provinces and districts nationwide, International organization and NGOs.
The main objectives of the meeting were to review the previous implementation of cooperation between Lao PDR and NGOs over the past ten years. They discussed the managing and cooperation mechanism in the future to ensure the approval of assisting projects of NGOs to be effective.
Last 30 years, the NGOs provided assistant to Laos considering as large number. Presently the NGOs supported Laos worth 35 million US dollar yearly by focusing on education, public heath, environment, development community, UXO clearance and aid victims suffered from natural disaster.
“The assistance of NGOs is an important contribution to the implementation of socio-economic development plan of Lao government,” Dr Thongloun said.
Presently, there are 161 NGOs and national NGOs are operating in Laos which increased from three NGOs in 1975.
