Thailand and Japan jointly promote road safety

BANGKOK, June 20 (TNA) -- The Department of Rural Roads and Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) exchange knowledge on road safety and will try solutions in two provinces. Smai Chotisakul, deputy director-general of the department, presided over the activities with the Japanese ministry in accordance with their memorandum of cooperation on road safety. Under the cooperation project, MLIT will use its equipment to detect danger-prone sections of roads and the department will then fix them. The survey begins today on ten roads. A team of the Department of Rural Roads initially brought MLIT officials to road in Sala Klang sub-district of Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi, and road in Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan. MLIT instruments would be applied there to check danger-prone areas. The department plans to fix all danger-prone spots on its roads covering a combined distance of about 47,000 kilometers nationwide. (TNA)
