AIRASIA SELLS 279,000 SEATS WITHIN A DAY

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- AirAsia, Asia's largest low-cost carrier
sold 279,000 seats within a day of opening its latest promotion fares.

About 40 percent of the record sales were from AirAsia's 500,000 free-seats
promotion, said AirAsia in a statement.

The promotion gives away free seats on almost all of AirAsia and AirAsia X's
routes.

The record surge began at midnight Monday, when the free-seats offer was
opened, and within two hours, 40,000 bookings were received from all over the
world.

"Despite the slowing economy, the demand for air travel is still
exceptionally strong," said AirAsia Group chief executive officer, Tony
Fernandes.

"Our extensive network, which covers over 108 routes plays a major role
in attracting people to fly with us," he said.

The free seats are available for bookings made from Feb 10-15, 2009 for
travel from Oct 12, 2009 to Jan 31,2010.
