FLOODS CAUSE RICE HARVEST FAILURES IN CILACAP

Cilacap, Indonesia, Feb. 12 (ANTARA) - Floods have caused e harvest faikure on 418 hectares of paddy fields in Cilacap District, Central Java.

"Rice crops on 418 hectares of fields have been damaged due to floods," Gunawan, head of the Cilacap agricultural and animal husbandry office, said here on Thursday.

From late January until early February, floodwaters submerged a total of 3,855 hectares of rice fields but most of the crops were saved because the water stayed for less than three days, he said.

The current rainy season has triggered floods and landslides in various parts of Indonesia, including in East Java, Central Java, West Java, South Sulawesi, East Kalimantan, and Aceh provinces.
