Mor Chit bus terminal to moving back to its old location
BANGKOK, July 6 (TNA) -- The chairman of state-run Transport Co, Ltd Anusorn Saengnimnual said the relocation of the Mor Chit bus terminal would not affect public services.
His state enterprise would afford to pay up to 1 billion baht for the task that would take at least six years.
Mr Anusorn said there were both support and opposition regarding the relocation but careful consideration of factors pointed to the necessity of the move.
He said the present location of the bus terminal is two kilometers from the new Bang Sue transport centre and travelers would be inconvenient in transit.
Besides, Kamphaeng Phet Road will be heavily congested because the Phahon Yothin area will gather many electric railways and several residential areas and shopping centres.
Therefore, the relocation of the Mor Chit bus terminal to its old venue on Phahon Yothin Road would ensure public conveniences, Mr Anusorn said.
However, the management of Transport Co asked the Transport Ministry to guarantee enough space at the old location. If the Mor Chit terminal should take shape as a high-rise building, there would have to be an elevated ramp to link it and Vibhavadi Road for good traffic flows, Mr Anusorn said.
Transport Co can invest up to 1 billion baht in the new terminal and will raise the money from its bus ticket sales. Mr Anusorn added that his state enterprise was ready to co-invest with the private sector in the bus terminal project that would be costly.
He projected that the relocation would take at least six years. (TNA)
