ICAO to inspect Thailand's aviation safety standards

BANGKOK, July 9 (TNA) -- Concerned Thai aviation officers are prepared to show the safety standards at Bangkok’s Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) officials during an inspection in the kingdom later this week. In March 2015, the ICAO downgraded Thailand’s aviation standards, “red flagging” the country for failing to address safety concerns. The Airports of Thailand Pcl (AOT) said that ICAO officials will visit Thailand between July 11 - 21 to inspect the progress of the Universal Security Audit Programme-Continuous Monitoring Approach (USAP-CMA) during their stay. The AOT said it has prepared since the beginning of 2016 and set up a working committee as well as cooperating with related agencies including the Royal Thai Air Force, THAI and the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Co, Ltd to strictly enforce safety measures at every airport in Thailand. AOT has expected that ICAO officials would inspect the two airports as well as watching procedures on arriving and departing of passengers at airports. AOT is optimistic that the ICAO would consider its improvement on safety standards at Thai airports. (TNA)
