Control rubber exports proposed to keep stable prices

BANGKOK, July 10 (TNA) -- Three major natural rubber producing countries have agreed to study the proposal to control rubber exports and to hold a ministerial meeting this September aimed at preventing rubber prices from falling further, said Titus Suksaard, governor of Rubber Authority of Thailand. Mr Titus said he had attended a 28th meeting of International Tripartite Rubber Council on July 6 and 7 with senior officers from Malaysia and Indonesia. Those two countries agreed with Thailand’s proposals including controlling of rubber exports to prevent prices uncertainty and the meeting has appointed a working committee to conduct a study on the amount of exports and time frame in details, said Mr Titus. He said the study must be furnished within this August 3 and the result will be submitted to the ministerial meeting of the three countries which will be held this September. Meanwhile, the general atmosphere of selling rubber latex in Kuan Lang subdistrict in the southern province of Songkhla was still active early Sunday although its prices continued falling to between 37-40 baht per kilogramme. A rubber grower in the village said rubber latex price should not be below 70 baht a kilogramme to enable growers to survive. Rubber growers in Songkhla have vowed to assemble in front of the provincial City Hall this Thursday to express their grievances and to also urge the government to help solved their problems in long-term.
