Malaysia Keen to Develop Mumbai-Nagpur Highway
By Shakir Husain
NEW DELHI, July 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is interested in developing a 700-kilometre Mumbai-Nagpur Super Communication Expressway that will cost an estimated US$7.1 billion, said Maharsahtra Public Works Department Minister Eknath Shinde.
A delegation from Malaysia comprising representatives from the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and CIDB Holdings Sdn Bhd and led by Malaysian Works Ministry Secretary-General Zohari Haji Akob called on Shinde to discuss the highway project.
The eight-lane expressway would pass through 10 districts.
"Malaysia has taken part in various development projects in the country and has used its advanced technology to develop roads, flyovers and subways.
"We would also like to work with them on more such projects," Shinde told reporters recently.
Local media reports said the project, which would involve land acquisition at an estimated cost of Rs55 billion (US$855 million), would also encompass the construction of business parks.
