ASLI To Hold Ninth WCES In Hong Kong

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Bernama) -- The Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI) will hold the Ninth World Chinese Economic Summit (WCES) in Hong Kong from Nov 13 -14, 2017. Themed, "Managing Global Uncertainty: Exploring New Opportunities", the event aims to enhance cooperation and connectivity between Hong Kong and ASEAN. "This is also in line with the Chinese government's Belt and Road initiative (BRI)," ASLI Chief Executive Officer, Dr Michael Yeoh told reporters here Monday. Yeoh, who is also WCES Chairman, said the event support the BRI by promoting people connectivity, financial connectivity and digital connectivity. "We believe the BRI will bring 4Is (Infrastructure, Investment, Innovation and Inclusive development) benefits to the 65 countries involved in it," he added. Yeoh said Deputy Prime Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will lead the Malaysian delegation and deliver the keynote address at the summit. He said the other keynote speakers include former Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, former Indonesian Vice President, Jusuf Kalla, Thailand’s former Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Surakiart Sathirathai and Australia’s Victoria State Governor, Linda Dessau.
