BRUNEI DPMM TO COMPETE IN S-LEAGUE BY HILARY SEBASTIAN KUEH

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- Brunei Duli Pengiran Muda Mahkota Football club (DPMM FC) have joined the Singapore League (S-League) which will kick off on Monday.

According to The Brunei Times website, DPMM FC will become the 12th team
to play in the 2009 S-League season, hence ended speculations on the club's
future, after the Bandar Seri Begawan-based club were ruled out from the
Malaysian Super League due to the de-registration of the Football Association
of Brunei (Bafa) last December.

"We are delighted to welcome DPMM FC to the S-League," said S-League Chief
Executive Officer Winston Lee in a statement issued by the Singapore Football
Association's Corporate Communications Department on Wednesday.

With the admission, DPMM FC will be able to play their matches at the 30,000
capacity Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

It will be the first time ever for an S-League match to be played outside of
the land state.

Besides DPMM FC, the eleven teams are Albirex Niigata, Super Reds, Balestier
Khalsa, Geyland United, Gombak United, Home United, Singapore Air Force FC,
Sengkang Punggol, Tampines Rovers, Woodlands and Young Lions.

S-League will be divided into three rounds and DPMM's maiden match will be
against Young Lions at Jalan Besar Stadium on Feb 27, while DPMM's home debut is
scheduled on March 5 against the Super Reds.
