Malaysian Student's Invention Wins Gold Medal in Korea

KANGAR (Perlis), Aug 1 (Bernama) -- An automated pet food dispenser using solar energy by a student of Sekolah Kebangsaan Putra, a school in Malaysia's northern state of Perlis, here has clinched the gold medal in the World Invention Creativity Contest (WICC) in South Korea which concluded Sunday. Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) in a statement Monday said the innovative gadget invented by Muhammad Danish Syafi Mohd Azdikirana,12, captured the attention of the jury as it could solve the problem of feeding pets when the owner is not at home. “The Solar Cat Feeder is a combination of ideas with his father in creating a food dispenser which is connected to a electrical circuit, a sensor and a solar panel as a source of power. “He and his younger brother had given much thought to ensure their eight pet cats will not be neglected when they go on a holiday,” the statement said adding that Danish Syafi had participated in the WICC through a sponsorship initiative from UniMAP and Tuanku Syed Putra Foundation (YTSP). The product was also made with the assistance of another friend Amirul Haziq Mohd Shamsudin who used a sensor to detect the cat and to dispense a set amount of food automatically. -- BERNAMA
