OIC TO ESTABLISH HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION
Baku, 16 February (AzerTAc). The first informal meeting of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) presided over by OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu kicked off in the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on February 15.
The meeting participants discussed among other issues establishing of OIC Permanent Commission
on Human Rights – an independent permanent body to promote human rights in
accordance with provisions of the Cairo Declaration on Human Rights.
According to Mr. Ihsanoglu, the resolution adopted at the meeting, will be submitted
to Intergovernmental Group of Experts. A follow-up to the meeting resolution
implies elaboration of an OIC Charter on Human Rights with following submission for
the approval of Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers (ICFM).
