AZERBAIJANI AND GREEK LEADERS MAKE PRESS STATEMENTS
Athens, February 16 (AzerTAc). Following the ceremony of signing the documents, the Heads of Greece and Azerbaijan made their statements for the media.
Greek President Karolos Papoulias said ties between the two countries in a variety
of fields were discussed during the meetings. There is huge potential for expanding
these relations. He noted discussions also revolved around expansion of
Azerbaijan-European Union relationship and regional issues.
Papoulias stressed the importance of the documents signed. He noted Azerbaijani
President`s official visit to Greece will contribute to bilateral relations.
Greek President thanked Azerbaijani President Aliyev for inviting him to Azerbaijan.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed gratitude to Greek counterpart for the hospitality.
He said Azerbaijan attaches great importance to Azerbaijani President`s first
official visit to Greece.
“We are sure that results of the visit will be successful and have a positive impact
on bilateral ties. We thoroughly analyzed bilateral and regional issues during the
meetings. Much work has been done to ship Azerbaijani energy resources to the world
markets for the past years. At this juncture, development of Azerbaijan-Greece
relations will positively impact on it”
On the energy security, President Ilham Aliyev noted Azerbaijan is ready to play its
role in Europe`s energy security. It has been over a year since Azerbaijani gas has
been transported to Greece, European Union market.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijani President said one million Azerbaijan
were forced from their homes by Armenian military aggression. Conflict resolution
must be based on the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. If Armenia abides by
international legal norms, this conflict will be solved shortly.
President Ilham Aliyev thanked Papoulias for accepting invitation to visit Azerbaijan.
