RM18 MILLION MALAYSIAN DONATION FOR GAZA
PUTRAJAYA, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- Donations totalling RM18 million (US$4.9
million) pledged by Malaysians for the Gaza humanitarian aid, will be handed
over through local non-governmental organisations within two weeks.
Foreign Minister Dr Rais Yatim said Wednesday the aid would be used for
water supply, corrective surgery and the setting up of bakeries in Gaza.
To date, RM10.4 million (US$2.8 million) had been collected while the
remainder pledged would be available by then, he told reporters at Wisma Putra
(Foreign Ministry), here.
To a question, Dr Rais said Malaysia might bring up the Rohingya issue at
the forthcoming Asean Summit in Thailand as about 6,000 Rohingyas were currently
in this country.
"We will discuss with member countries in finding solutions to the issue,"
he said, adding that Malaysia did not recognise them as refugees.
