Laos export reaches US$276 million in three months

(KPL) Only three months, Lao PDR’s export has reached US$276 million for 2008-2009 fiscal year and risen by 7%, compared with the same period of last year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
Officials, the Export and Import Department disclosed this week that Laos’s export trend has been rising slightly as it showed that export figure has reached at least US$ 276 million in the first quarter of this fiscal year. Since November to December, the most of export volume has been involved with mining, handicraft, garment, electric and agricultural products.
Export of mineral products is one of Laos’s current important goods, for example mineral products could generate US$ 151 million, increased by 4 % in comparing with the same period of last year.
These were divided as the export of gold reached US$ 7 million, a rising 80% and copper generated around US$ 138 million, increasing 15%.
For the export of handicraft products made an income of more than US$ 52 million and increased by 5%. This was classified, as Laos’s second largest export next to mineral products while garment products is third export, which generated more than US$ 49 million, a increase of 2%.
The electricity was dropped at fourth export by export volume is only US$ 34 million and exports of agricultural and livestock products stood at US$ 17 million, rising by 80%.
Lao government estimated that a total of export volume would increase US$ 1,000 million in 2008 to US$ 1,250 million for 2009 however the world financial crisis situation affected its country generally.
