FRESH WATER FISH PRODUCTION TO BE INCREASED

JOHOR BAHARU (Malaysia), Feb 21 (Bernama) -- The Agriculture and Agro-based
Industry Ministry plans to increase freshwater fish production, which is
currently at 12 per cent of total output, to 50 per cent in 10 years.

Its minister Mustapa Mohamed said freshwater fish production needed to be
increased because of dwindling harvests of marine fish.

Mustapa told this to reporters after visiting a freshwater fish breeding
project in Gelang Patah near this capital city of southern state of Johor
Saturday.

He added that to realise the target, some 30 aquaculture zones would be
created throughout the country.
