WORKING GROUP PREPARING FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR EAST-WEST HIGH SPEED INFORMATION HIGHWAY PROJECT

Baku, February 22 (AzerTAc). The Azerbaijan Ministry of Communications and Information Technology will step up its efforts to submit the East-West High Speed Information Highway project to consideration of the UN General Assembly`s session.

The working group is preparing the project feasibility study.
The project envisages creation of the high speed Europe-Asia information highway
linking Western Europe and Pacific basin. The highway will cover East European and
CIS countries as well as Turkey, Iran, Central Asian nations including Afghanistan
and Pakistan, China, India. It will give a kick-start to socio-economic development
in the region and international information exchange.
Last year, this project was discussed at the ministerial meeting during the
BakuTel-2008 international exhibition and conference. The ministers from the
region`s countries adopted a Baku declaration on the Transnational Eurasia
Information Super Highway.
