S'PORE CONDEMNS TERROR ATTACK IN CAIRO

By Zakaria Abdul Wahab

SINGAPORE, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- Singapore has strongly condemned the terrorist bomb attack at a bazaar popular among foreign tourists in Cairo, Egypt Sunday evening.

The attack left a French woman tourist killed and over 20 others, mostly
foreigners, injured.

Singapore's Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement here Monday, that
the attack clearly targeted innocent civilians.

The republic, which takes global combating of terrorism seriously, said it
stood with the international community to support Egypt's continued efforts to
fight terrorism.

The ministry said so far, there were no reports of Singaporean casualties,
and its embassy in Cairo was in contact with the Egyptian authorities and
closely monitoring the situation.

Singapore already had a bitter taste of a terrorist attack although not on
its soil, when one of its nationals was killed during a hostage drama in the
terrorist attack across Mumbai, India last November.
