DISCOUNT ON SOME MELAKA TOURISM PRODUCTS

MELAKA (Malaysia), Feb 23 (Bernama) -- Beginning next month, the Melaka
Government will offer a 50 per cent discount off the normal ticket price for
several tourism products between Monday and Thursday, aimed at boosting tourism
industry.

State tourism, culture, arts and heritage committee chairman Seet
Har Cheow said the discount would be given on, among others, tickets to the
Taming Sari Observatory Tower, Melaka Zoo and Sungai Melaka boat fares.

He hoped the move would increase the number of tourist arrivals in the
state by 7.4 million this year.

"We are also looking at the possibility of reduction in other popular
tourism products," he told reporters after officiating the Tourism and World
Heritage City Conference here Monday.

The two-day conference is jointly organised by the state government and
World Assembly of Youth.

Seet hoped, with participation from over 20 countries, including ASEAN
members at the conference, experiences could be shared for mutual benefit.

Malacca (Malay: Melaka, dubbed as The Historical State amongst locals) is
the third smallest Malaysian state, after Perlis and Penang.

It is located in the southern region of the Malay Peninsula, on the Straits
of Malacca. It borders Negeri Sembilan to the north and the state of Johor to
the south.
