STOP HARPING ON RACIAL ISSUES
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- A government backbencher Monday called on
politicians to stop raising racial, religious and supremacy issues to ensure
that racial harmony, which has been nurtured for so long, remains entrenched
among the society.
Member of Parliament Dr Marcus Mojigoh said the action of some politicians
who were bent on raising racial issues could cause unease among the races.
"I hope the government will look at this seriously in line with the call by
the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Malaysian King)," he said when debating the motion of
thanks on the address by the King Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin.
In his speech when opening the current parliament session on Feb 16, Tuanku
Mizan expressed regret that despite the country having gained independence for
51 years, certain parties were still raising narrow racial issues for public
debate.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament Wilfred Bumburing who interjected, said he
was taken aback with the way racial issues were debated in the Lower House of
Parliament.
