JUSTICE FOR KHOJALY CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED IN HAGUE

Baku, 25 February (AzerTAc). The “Ana Veten” (Motherland) Union of Azerbaijani women of Europe organized a commemoration ceremony and procession in the Hague to pay a tribute to the victims of Khojaly massacre, perpetrated by the Armenian militants in the Azerbaijan town of Khojaly on 25th February, 1992.

The event, including
presentation of the internet site www.justiceforkhojaly.org devoted to Khojaly
massacre, was organized on February 22 as part of the International awareness
campaign “Justice for Khojaly-Freedom for Karabakh” supported by coordinator for the
Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Intercultural Dialogue Leyla Aliyeva and Heydar
Aliyev Foundation, press service of the Azerbaijan Embassy to the Netherlands said.

Prior to the commemoration ceremony, a group of youth wearing T-shirts with the web
site’s URL and banners to draw attention to Khojaly massacre got together in front
of the Peace Palace in the Hague, where a number of international courts, Hague
Academy of International Law and other law organizations are located. Then
participants of the event started a procession from the Peace Palace and proceeded
through the streets toward the first-ever monument to the victims of the Khojaly
massacre erected in the Kamperfoeliestraat Park, where there was held a
commemoration ceremony.
The commemoration ceremony was addressed by Gulshan Kazimova, Head of the “Ana
Veten” Union of Azerbaijani women of Europe, Marion Van Der Vecht, Executive
Director of “Dutch Friends of Azerbaijan” Society and Grigori Pasternak, Executive
Director of the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots in the Netherlands. The
speakers outlined that “Justice for Khojaly-Freedom for Karabakh” international
campaign, supported by Leyla Aliyeva and Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the web site
will bring the truth about Khojaly massacre to the world community’s notice.
Open-air presentations are very popular in the Western Europe, and presentation of
internet site devoted to Khojaly tragedy was given a high profile in Dutch daily
papers.
Representatives of the Azerbaijani Diaspora, “Dutch Friends of Azerbaijan” Society
and mass media have joined the commemoration ceremony.
