Vietnam, Laos enhance educational cooperation

(KPL) Vietnam will provide short-term and long-term training courses for 245 cadres, students and postgraduates who are Vietnamese expatriates in Laos this year.
A cooperative agreement to this effect was signed by Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thien Nhan and Lao Minister of Education, Somkot Mangnomek, in Vientiane on 24 February.
Under the agreement, Laos will offer linguistics and social sciences and humanities courses to 30 Vietnamese students at its National University. Both sides will continue boosting the exchange
of working teams in 2009.
During the talks on the same day, representatives from the two education ministries shared experiences in improving their educational quality, especially the quality of trainers.
The Lao side proposed that Vietnam continue providing textbooks and teaching guidebooks for its teachers of all levels.
The Vietnamese side said it is ready to help Laos in training human resources in hi-tech industries.
Both sides agreed to speed up the compilation of Vietnamese language teaching books and support Vietnamese localities to send Vietnamese language teachers to Laos to work at public and private schools.
They will coordinate in improving the quality of Vietnamese language teaching at schools in line with Laos’ educational reform programme.
