FOREIGN MINISTRY DENIES ACCIDENT REPORT INVOLVING DIPLOMAT'S WIFE

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- The Foreign Ministry denied a report in a
South African newspaper on Monday, which was also picked up by various foreign
news agencies, that linked the wife of a Malaysian diplomat in an accident in
Johannesburg which resulted in the death of man.

A ministry statement relased by the Information Department here today also
confirmed that there was no officer in the Malaysian High Commssion in South
Africa who was married to woman named Reema Abraham.

In fact, investigations carried out on the registration number of the car
involved in the accident by the 'Tswane Metropolitan Police showed it to be that
of a local car and not one of a diplomat, the statement said.

News reports in the 'International Daily', 'Pretoria News' and 'The Beeld'
newspapers claimed the accident happened when Reema was checking a problem with
her car's engine by the side of the road.
