AZERBAIJANI OMBUDSMAN GATHERS CHILDREN`S SIGNATURES OVER KHOJALY GENOCIDE
Baku, February 26 (AzerTAc). Ombudsman Office and Education Ministry of Azerbaijan jointly held a children signature-gathering campaign in order to raise world community`s awareness about the truth on the Khojaly tragedy.
As part of the campaign under the “We are messengers of peace! Join us!” motto, over
300,000 signatures of schoolchildren including refugee children have been gathered.
Signature sheets were sent to Radhika Coomaraswamy, the UN Under-Secretary-General,
Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict.
The information sent to the UN says 20 percent of Azerbaijani lands was occupied,
over one million Azerbaijani were forced from their lands by Armenian aggression.
One of every eight Azerbaijani citizen is a refugee or IDP.
Children from every region of Azerbaijan showed they protest against 100 year-long
Armenian aggression, ethnic purge, acts of terrorism, genocide, and bloody wars.
On the eve of 1 June, Children`s Day, an international conference on situation of
children in extreme conditions is scheduled to be held in Azerbaijan at the
initiative of the ombudsman and with the support of the UNICEF.
