ARMENIANS FIRE AT PERSONAL REPRESENTATIVE OF OSCE CHAIRMAN-IN-OFFICE AND HIS FIELD ASSISTANTS DURING MONITORING OF FRONT LINE

Baku, 26 February (AzerTAc). On February 26, a Monitoring of the front line was held
near the Fuzuli-Horadiz road in Azerbaijan`s Fuzuli region, according to an
Azerbaijani Defense Ministry statement.
On the Azerbaijani side the Monitoring was conducted by the Personal Representative
of the Chairman in Office of the OSCE, Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk, and two of his
Field Assistants, Peter Key and Vladimir Chountulov. On the opposite side of the
frontline, the internationally recognized territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan,
the Monitoring was conducted by two Field Assistants of the Personal Representative
of the OSCE Chairman in Office, Imre Palatinus and Irzhe Aberlen.
The Monitoring started at 12.00 p.m. Both sides were in constant radio communication
throughout the Monitoring. During the Monitoring, the fire was opened from the
Armenian side. It started with two single-shots, then continued into an automatic
round, and then ceased with a single shot. It was clearly seen that the fire was
directed at the monitors on the Azerbaijani side. Members of the international
monitoring group clearly felt bullets whining around them. As a result of the
firing, Ambassador Kasprzyk decided to abort the Monitoring, and instructed the
monitoring group on the opposite side to conduct an investigation into the incident.
