M'SIA INKS SEVERAL ASEAN TRADE PACTS By M. Saraswathi

HUA HIN (Thailand), Feb 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Thursday signed several trade agreements that will help strengthen cooperation within the Asean region, especially during the current economic slowdown.

It will also help tap potentials within the region, said the International
Trade and Industry Ministry in a statement.

The agreements were signed by International Trade and Industry Minister
Muhyiddin Yassin.

The agreements are Asean Trade in Goods, Asean Comprehensive Investment and
Protocol to Implement the Seventh Package of Commitments under Asean Framework
on Services.

The other agreements are Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) on Medical
Practitioners, Asean MRA on dental practitioners and Asean MRA Framework on
Accountancy Services.

"These agreements will also facilitate movements of skilled personnel
within the region," the ministry said.

Earlier, Muhyiddin had a 20-minute bilateral meeting with his Thailand
counterpart Porntiva Nakasai.
