Malaysia: Sarawakian Entrepreneurs Urged To Explore Japan's Halal Market

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), Feb 9 (Bernama) – Sarawak's Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, Trade and Investment (MIETI) has urged local entrepreneurs to venture into the Japanese market, especially in the halal food industry. State Entrepreneur and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Assistant Minister Mohd Naroden Majais said Japan is in the midst of preparing to host the Tokyo Olympics 2020, where it was aiming to attract over 20 million tourists during the sporting event. “Over one million of them would be Muslims, and this international event will provide ample business opportunities. I hope that Malaysian companies will capitalise on this golden opportunity. “MATRADE will continue to assist Malaysian companies to export, as well as invest in Japan to further enhance and strengthen bilateral economic ties with the country,” he said. Naroden, who is also the State Assistant Minister for e-Commerce, said this in his welcoming remarks at the “Business Opportunities on Halal Industry in Japan” Seminar here Thursday. Also present was Japan External Trade Organisation Kuala Lumpur Managing Director Akira Kajita. Sarawak is a state of Malaysia located in northwest Borneo Island. It is bordered by the Malaysian state of Sabah to the northeast, Kalimantan, the Indonesian portion of Borneo, to the south, and the independent country of Brunei in the north. -- BERNAMA
